litespeed suddenly stopped responding

all of a sudden litespeed stopped responding, restarting the service didn't help
had to switch to apache
attempts to restart with port offset failed
had been running perfectly a good long time till it suddenly stopped
restarting by comand line causes no errors but through plesk still says its not running
cant restart through plesk
deleted /tmp/lshttpd/
still cant restart
no new pid is created
